Recently I found myself needing to make some changes on my website. Not changes in content, but changes to the code (technically speaking, I needed to have the site converted from a tables layout to the more acceptable CSS). Since I really didn’t know how to do that, I posted an ad on Craigslist asking for someone to do this for me. I was flooded with responses – probably more than 50 in the first day. The responses ranged from entire resumes with long lists of previous projects, to “I’m not sure how to do that, but I would like to give it a try”.

One of the responses came from Mark Flanders. Rather than “I can do it, here’s the price”, his first email to me was to ask a couple of questions about the project (information I should have included in the original post, but didn’t). We emailed back and forth a couple of times, and his friendly, down-to-earth responses made me feel comfortable that he would do a good job. His was not the lowest quote (nor the highest), but I felt he was the best one for the job.

He completed the work in less time than I expected, and he did a fantastic job. I had a couple of questions following that, and he was quick to respond and very helpful. If I have any more coding projects, I will definitely not post on Craigslist – I will just contact Mark.
